14 May 2022Another Viking cruise
I am thrilled to have been invited to join Viking Orion for NORTH PACIFIC PASSAGE, a cruise I last did – and hugely enjoyed – in the reverse direction in May 2019. The cruise sails from Vancouver in Tuesday 20th September 2022, visiting Ketchikan, Sitka, Glacier Bay, Hubbard Glacier, Valdez, Seward, Kodiak and Dutch Harbour (all Alaska), following by a 7-day crossing of the Pacific to Otaru in Japan, ending in Tokyo on Thursday 13th October. See my CRUISE BOOKINGS page for more details.
12 May 2022"The Tree Book"
I spent quite a bit of time during the last stages of lockdown working on texts for "THE TREE BOOK: THE STORIES, SCIENCE AND HISTORY OF TREES" – a new book from Dorling Kindersley in their characteristic style. It was great fun to research and write, and, in the end, I contributed almost quarter of the text, so am honoured to be credited as "lead author". The book looks even more handsome and engaging in print than it did when I was working with PDFs of the pages, and I am sure it will sell well (and I'd be delighted if you ordered your copy from Amazon through adverts in the right hand column of my web pages).
11 October 2021More 2023 cruises added
I am pleased to have confirmation from Viking Ocean Cruises for three more cruises around favourite places in Australia and New Zealand in 2023. Later, I'm also booked on three brand new Viking itineraries, including brilliant cruises to Iceland, Greenland and Svalbard about which I am hugely excited. Go to my Bookings page for full details of these trips, which we can highly recommend for wildlife, scenery and lovely ports to visit - or message me here if you have any questions about these cruises.
28 July 2021Cruising returns...
In June and July, I was delighted to be appointed by Viking Ocean Cruises as a guest speaker on four cruises, beginning and ending in Reykjavik, entitled ICELAND'S NATURAL BEAUTY. These circumnavigated Iceland with time ashore in Reykjavik, Isafjordur, Akureyri, Seydisfjordur, Djupivogur, and Heimaey on the Westman islands. The trips felt wonderfully safe, thanks to the far-ranging Covid protection measures that Viking had instigated, including daily Covid tests using a fully specified PCR lab on the ship.
